IRSCL Congress is ready for its first online version

Over four hundred presentations inspired by current discussions on the possible aesthetic and pedagogic synergies in children’s culture will be showcased at IRSCL2021: Aesthetic and Pedagogic Entanglements.

The twenty-fifth version of the biennial congress of the International Research Society for Children’s Literature (IRSCL) will take place fully online in October from Tuesday 19th to Friday 29th.This will be the first IRSCL congress  to be hosted in Latin America, as well as the first to feature a bilingual programme, while coinciding with the academic society’s 50th anniversary. Under the title “Aesthetic and Pedagogic Entanglements”, IRSCL 2021 will bring together researchers from diverse geographies working in the fields of children’s literature and media.

The programme of this event stands as a salient and attractive feature for those wishing to join as spectators: over one hundred panels, six keynote speakers, and a plethora of engaging activities such as a forum on academic publishing in the children’s literature field, round tables, workshop sessions for doctoral students, book presentations and dialogue-oriented theme rooms. This congress is an opportunity for those interested in deepening their knowledge and understanding of contemporary research being carried out in the fields of children’s  literature and culture.

Congress activities will be carried out between 8:00 and 22:00 (Santiago de Chile,GMT-3) thus accommodating over 400 speakers from different time zones across the globe. The International Research Society for Children’s Literature is an international academic organization that aims to support and promote research in the field of children and young adult’s literature, through the intellectual work of  members from over 40 countries around the world. The first congress of the society was held in Frankfurt (Germany), in October 1971.

The IRSCL 2021 academic committee is led by Macarena García-González, from the Center for Advanced Studies in Educational Justice (CJE) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (UC), and lead researcher of the research project ‘Literary and Emotional Repertories for Childhood’. The committee is also formed by Andrea Casals, from the UC Faculty of Letters, Claudia Matus, from CJE and the UC Faculty of Education, Isabel Ibaceta from the Institute of Education of the University of Rancagua, Felipe Munita from the UC  Faculty of Education and Soledad Veliz from CJE and the Center for Development of Technologies for Inclusion.

IRSCL2021: Aesthetic and Pedagogic Entanglements is organized by the Center for Advanced Studies in Educational Justice of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (CJE UC), in tandem with the UC Faculty of Education and the UC Faculty of Letters,and in collaboration with the Institute of Education of the O’Higgins University. The congress also has the support of CERLALC-UNESCO, Plan Nacional de la Lectura (Chile’s National Reading and Literacy Program),Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas ( Chile’s National System of Public Libraries), IBBY, Tantágora, Red de Bibliotecas Escolares Futuro among other national and international organizations involved in the ecosystem of  children’s literature and culture.
